Alliance Harm Reduction Manager Joel leads Narcan trainings for hundreds of New Yorkers each year. He has lived experience with substance use, so he connects deeply and compassionately with Alliance harm reduction participants. The biggest lesson Joel has learned from experience is that all of us of need to be ready to act quickly in the event of an overdose: “It’s a matter of life and death. Narcan is part of our daily uniform. You never know when you’re going to need it.”

Having the tools and training to reverse an overdose is essential. It is also just the beginning of the support Alliance provides. “We continually build relationships and connect people with additional resources, if and when they are ready,” says Joel.
