On Monday, October 9, Alliance hosted a no-cost breast cancer screening event at our CASA Washington Heights community center in partnership with the American-Italian Cancer Foundation’s mobile mammography program. The mobile unit had space for consultations, general physical exams, and mammography exams. Over 25 women came to access these services.

September is Recovery Month, and in honor of all people who currently or previously dealt with substance dependency, Alliance designs interactive programs and resources year-round. Last week, we held 11 recovery-themed events across our community centers, including recovery bingo, arts and crafts, and a screening of the 2021 documentary film Anonymous Sister, a story of inter-generational substance dependency. We were delighted that the film director, Jamie Boyle, joined us for a Q&A session.

Resident Doctors at the Institute for Family Health visited our LES Harm Reduction Center to assemble kits to test drugs for xylazine and fentanyl. These kits all contain sterile water, cookers, the test strips, and instructions for use. We distribute almost 1,000 such kits every month, and they save lives. We thank the Resident Doctors at Institute for Family Health!
On Thursday, August 24, we hosted our Summer Health Fair at CASA Washington Heights, which was attended by approximately 100 people.
Sponsored by Avita Pharmacy, it included face painting, food and entertainment including live music, rapid HIV and HCV testing, mpox services and referrals to testing, overdose training and Narcan kits, and much more. It was a beautiful event with many agencies including New York Presbyterian, VNS Health, Elite home care, safe link, VIP mujeres services, and more joining us.
