Alliance for Positive Change Names Veteran Nonprofit Leader Colin A. Weil Vice President of Advancement—Bolstering Leadership to Drive Strategic Philanthropic Growth
Alliance for Positive Change has appointed Colin A. Weil as Vice President of Advancement, adding a seasoned fundraising and strategy leader to help drive the organization's next phase of growth and expand access to care for vulnerable New Yorkers.
Weil brings more than three decades of experience in nonprofit leadership, fundraising, and institutional strategy, having built successful advancement programs for a range of mission-driven organizations. In his new role, he will lead Alliance for Positive Change’s efforts to grow individual and institutional support for the organization’s work serving low-income New Yorkers living with HIV and other chronic conditions.
Weil’s appointment comes as Alliance for Positive Change advances a multi-year redesign of its service model, aimed at engaging the whole person to strengthen participant outcomes and expand its reach. The redesign includes a more integrated, team-based approach to care, enhanced outreach to individuals disconnected from services, upgraded data systems to better understand participant needs, and increased staffing capacity to support mental health and housing services across its six sites, with full implementation expected by the end of 2026.
Weil will focus on building a stronger pipeline of donors and partners, with an emphasis on engaging the next generation of philanthropists and expanding Alliance for Positive Change’s visibility within New York’s philanthropic community. Central to that effort will be demonstrating the broader value of investing in Alliance for Positive Change’s model of care: improving outcomes for individuals while strengthening public health and reducing the long-term costs associated with untreated and unmanaged health conditions.
“Colin’s decades of experience in advancement strategy and fundraising are crucial as we continue to evolve our care model to meet the needs of vulnerable New Yorkers, and focus on long-term impact and sustainability,” said Sharen I. Duke, Executive Director and CEO of Alliance for Positive Change. “At its core, our work is about possibility. Yes, it’s about helping people manage their health conditions, but it’s also about building a stable foundation from which they can lead, contribute, and thrive.”
Alliance for Positive Change serves thousands of New Yorkers each year across Manhattan and the Bronx, providing a comprehensive range of services including connection to health care, mental and behavioral health, supportive housing, food and nutrition, overdose prevention, and creating vital pathways to economic mobility through its peer training and job placement initiatives.
“I’m incredibly proud of the talented and dedicated team we’ve built and our work to position us for this next phase of growth,” said Brooke Montes, Chief Strategy & Advancement Officer of Alliance for Positive Change. “As we continue to strengthen our organization and focus on long-term sustainability, I’m excited to welcome Colin to our team and to partner with him in expanding our philanthropic relationships, deepening our partnerships, and building the resources needed to advance Alliance for Positive Change’s mission for years to come.”
Prior to joining Alliance for Positive Change, Weil served as Executive Director of Congregation B’nai Jeshurun, where he oversaw advancement, communications, and operations, helping to secure approximately $10 million annually in operating support and $25 million in capital funding. He has also held leadership roles at The Jewish Museum and the Joseph Slifka Center for Jewish Life at Yale, and earlier in his career served as Chief Operating Officer of AIDS Walks in New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco.
Weil’s connection to HIV/AIDS advocacy spans decades, beginning as a volunteer with AIDS Walk New York in 1989 and evolving into leadership roles supporting major fundraising efforts and community initiatives.
“I’m honored to join Alliance for Positive Change at such a pivotal moment,” Weil said. “There is both an urgent need and a powerful opportunity to build a more robust and sustainable philanthropic foundation to support this life-saving and life-affirming work. I look forward to working with colleagues, donors, and partners to expand our impact across New York City.”
