International Overdose Awareness Day 2025

On August 29, Alliance marked International Overdose Awareness Day with a well-attended overdose prevention education event in Washington Square Park. Alliance’s Peer Workers led overdose-reversal demonstrations on how to use naloxone kits and fentanyl test strips to reduce the risk of overdose. Check out the coverage of this event on PIX11.

In a recent Op Ed in The Progressive, Alliance Keith Haring Harlem Center’s Program Director, Evelyn English, described the urgency of universal Narcan access—a concept that Alliance put into action throughout September by training 60+ community members on the proper use of Narcan to reverse an overdose. Since January, Alliance has fielded 150 reports of participants who used Naloxone provided to them by Alliance to successfully reverse an overdose. Our work saves lives!

Rethink Food Visits Alliance

On Thursday, August 14, our long-time partner Rethink Food visited Alliance and saw their freshly-donated meals served to hundreds of participants. This came on the heels of Rethink’s day-long food preparation at the Javits Center with vegetables grown at the Javits Center’s rooftop garden.
