Alliance Visits Statehouse in Support of Health Homes and Harm Reduction

On Tuesday, February 11, over a dozen Alliance staff, Peers, and participants took buses up to Albany. We met with legislators about the essential services our Health Homes care management provides to thousands of New Yorkers with chronic conditions, and about our harm reduction services. We asked them to continue supporting these programs that change people’s lives for the better. We also attended a rally in the capitol in support of overdose prevention centers (OPCs) where Peer Worker Shantae Owens spoke.

Alliance Goes to Albany to Save Health Homes

On Tuesday February 27, almost 20 Alliance staff and program participants took a pre-dawn bus to Albany to meet with legislators and emphasize how important Health Homes. The program is a care management mechanism for 2,000+ of our participants, and 170,000 people with chronic conditions throughout New York State with chronic conditions. State funding for Health Homes has been cut over the past two years, with an additional $125M cut in 2025 proposed by Governor Hochul.

“Without the Health Homes program, I would not be here,” said Adonis Porch, an Alliance Peer and former program participant who has advocated in Albany on more than five separate occasions.

Alliance protests "Cuomo Carve Out" in Albany with "Die-in" Demonstration

On Tuesday, March 28, days before “The Cuomo Carve Out” of the life-saving Medicaid 340B program is slated to go into effect, Alliance joined Housing Works and other safety net providers that will be effected by cuts to essential services. To demonstrate the severity of these cuts, we joined in a “Die-in” demonstration.

Alliance Returns to Albany to Save Health Homes

Over 20 Alliance staff and program participants woke up well before dawn and drove to Albany again on Monday, February 27, to lobby against proposed cuts that would remove 70,000 participants from New York State Health Homes. Joined by providers like Harlem United, Argus Health, Housing Works, and many others, we spoke with over a dozen state legislators and their staffs about the importance of the intensive care management model that Health Homes provides.
