Hands off Housing Rally in Staten Island

On Thursday, July 31, Alliance participated in a demonstration opposing dangerous proposed federal cuts to housing for people with HIV/AIDS. The event was organized by The Supportive Housing Network of NY, which Alliance has been a proud member of many years. Alliance’s

This rally took place mere hours before Alliance hosted City Council member Christopher Marte for a visit of our LES Harm Reduction Center. Low-income New Yorkers with serious health challenges need more local and federal support for resources, not less, and we appreciate the allyship of many elected officials, even in these challenging times.

City Council member Christopher Marte Visits LES Harm Reduction Center

On Thursday, July 31, City Council member Christopher Marte visited Alliance LES Harm Reduction Center to see our life-saving work in action. We discussed the importance of our syringe exchange program, medication-assisted treatment (Suboxone), comprehensive care management to help our participants manage complex health challenges, and our daily wellness groups. At a time when federal support for harm reduction and essential services for low-income New Yorkers has been slashed, local and state funding for our essential services is so essential, and we were glad to be able to share some of our program successes with the Council Member.

On the same day, Alliance helped lead a rally on Staten Island to protect housing protections for people with HIV/AIDS.

Alliance Visits Statehouse in Support of Health Homes and Harm Reduction

On Tuesday, February 11, over a dozen Alliance staff, Peers, and participants took buses up to Albany. We met with legislators about the essential services our Health Homes care management provides to thousands of New Yorkers with chronic conditions, and about our harm reduction services. We asked them to continue supporting these programs that change people’s lives for the better. We also attended a rally in the capitol in support of overdose prevention centers (OPCs) where Peer Worker Shantae Owens spoke.

Alliance Returns to Albany to Save Health Homes

Over 20 Alliance staff and program participants woke up well before dawn and drove to Albany again on Monday, February 27, to lobby against proposed cuts that would remove 70,000 participants from New York State Health Homes. Joined by providers like Harlem United, Argus Health, Housing Works, and many others, we spoke with over a dozen state legislators and their staffs about the importance of the intensive care management model that Health Homes provides.
