Alliance COO Brenda Starks-Ross and Save New York Safety Net Coalition Fight Cuomo Carve Out

Brittany Gomez featured in City Limits for Recovery Month

Alliance Peer and PREP Cycle 58 graduate Brittany Gomez shared her story in a guest column for City Limits. She advocates for more harm reduction services and options that support people in recovery without shaming people who use drugs including alcohol. As Brittany writes: “There is no one-size-fits-all solution to the overdose crisis. Recovery was the right path for me, but harm reduction interventions that help individuals use drugs more safely might work better for others.”

Alliance for Positive Change Announces New Board Members

(New York, N.Y.)—Alliance for Positive Change, which for three decades has provided low-income New Yorkers living with HIV/AIDS and other chronic conditions with access to quality health care, housing, and harm reduction, today announced the election of three new members to its Board of Directors.

The three new Board Members are: Jennifer S. Gordon, Esq., of Paramount Global, Nick Holmes, MBA, of Microsoft, and Andres Nieto of NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital. All have begun two-year terms.

“Since our founding days, Alliance has always been fortunate to receive the expertise and knowledge of a committed Board that cares deeply about equity and opportunity,” said Board Chair William Toler. “We are incredibly grateful to welcome Jennifer, Nick and Andres, all whose expertise and passion for change will not only help our organization to grow but for our program participants to experience positive change.”

Alliance Featured on NYN for HIV Testing Day

Alliance’s Director of community engagement and testing Arianne Watson spoke with NYN Media about our exciting partnership with the national Greater than AIDS partnership to provide more HIV tests.

Throughout the year, but especially during Pride Month, Alliance provides free rapid HIV tests at our offices across Manhattan and Alliance on the Move.

“It’s free at Alliance. It’s a simple finger prick. We provide pre and post-test counseling if any individuals come up positive and we can triage them to care,” said Arianne.

Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney Secures $1M in Federal Funding for Alliance

As reported last Summer, Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney requested $1M in federal for Alliance for Positive Change, and on Tuesday, March 22, she publicly celebrated securing it, on Tuesday.

Alliance is one of 10 community organizations in Maloney’s district will get $6.3 million in project funding requests that Maloney allocated in the fiscal year 2022 appropriations legislation. She was joined by Alliance Executive Director/CEO Sharen I. Duke, Alliance Deputy Executive Director/COO Brenda Starks-Ross, and Alliance Director of Administration Brooke Brailey.

“It’s unheard of that everyone got all of their projects funded,” Jessica Walker from the Manhattan Chamber of Commerce said.

Women's Chat and Craft Group Featured on NY1 and NY1 Noticias

News NY1 and NY1 Noticias captured a hands-on arts project and showcased the impact of Alliance’s programs for women. Alliance’s weekly Women’s Chat & Craft Group on Tuesday, March 15 hosted a rock-painting event with a dozen attendees. Prevention Manager Maria Madrid spoke about Alliance’s work with NY1 Noticias (mira en Espanol) and Director of Women’s Services Dr. Erin McKinney-Prupis spoke with NY1 (watch in English.)
