Today’s feature: Dr. Linda Laubenstein was an early HIV/AIDS researcher and one of the first people to identify the AIDS epidemic. In addition to her dedication to HIV/AIDS research and activism, she treated AIDS patients in private practice and co-founded Multitasking, an organization that provided employment for people with AIDS (at the time, people with AIDS were losing their jobs).

Joseph Beam was an author and leading advocate for the LGBTQ+ community who edited "In the Life," a groundbreaking anthology that provided black gay men with crucial affirmations of their identities. In the introduction to "In the Life," he wrote, “The bottom line is this: We are black men who are proudly gay. What we offer is our lives, our loves, our visions…We are coming home with our heads held up high.” Beam hoped for and fought against the crushing alienation he knew was everywhere an accessory for black gay men.
